ABOUT KEN GORCZYCA
Ken Gorczyca, born in Philadelphia, is a California artist currently sharing his time between the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County and San Francisco.
His grandfather first introduced him to painting-by-numbers using oil at age seven. As an adolescent living on a U.S. military base in West Germany during the Vietnam War, Ken studied oil painting with a German artist. In college, Ken received a Bachelor of Science degree in Atmospheric Science and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California at Davis.
He has studied painting at the San Francisco Art Institute, the City College of San Francisco at Fort Mason, and the U.C. Berkeley Visual Arts Program. Ken is a long-term survivor of the AIDS pandemic, a human-animal bond advocate, and an avid gardener. He especially enjoys painting outdoors in nature in the ‘plein air’ style while sitting on the earth. Ken also loves painting animal companions and endangered animal species. He finds painting an essential part of his personal happiness.
